ST. DEMETRIOS GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH
57 Brown St. Weston, MA 02493

When our St. Demetrios Church was founded in 1959, the late director, James P. Savas, also established the St. Demetrios Choir.  The choir today, as it was in the beginning, is composed of volunteers who commit themselves and offer their stewardship of talent and time as a gift to God.  Over the years, our choir grew from a handful of members to over thirty dedicated individuals who sing at the Divine Liturgy and other services from September to June.

During his many years as choir director, Mr. Savas introduced the choir to the music of many Greek-American composers who have arranged and harmonized Byzantine music into western notation.  These composers include Nicholas Roubanis, Tito Xirellis, Frank Desby and Anna Gallos.

Today, under the direction of Gregory Condakes, the choir continues to sing the hymns of our Orthodox Church, in English as well as in Greek.  An attempt has been made to master several versions of our Church hymns, sung in the eight Byzantine Modes.  Our choir continues, as in the beginning, to sing the entire Liturgy "a cappella"; that is, without organ accompaniment which makes it one of the few choirs to be able to do so.

For more information please contact Gregory Condakes.

The St. Demetrios choir takes great joy and is privileged to be able to contribute to our rich Orthodox tradition and worship of our Church.
